The House voted in favor of Rep. Jason Chaffetz’s bill to eliminate per-country caps on employment-based immigration visas. The current law disallows the employment-based visas to any one country to exceed 7% of total employment-based visas given out. Although the total number of employment-based visas issued would not increase as a result of this bill, the bill would perhaps increase the supply of high-skilled workers in the United States-- it seeks to facilitate the process for high-skilled workers who were educated in the United States to stay and use their skills to build the country’s economy.
