Does the $52 billion in post-Thanksgiving sales mean we can escape our recession?

Although post-Thanksgiving sales increased by 16% this year, Chris Isidore tells his readers not to expect our economy to begin thriving. We should not base our expectations on these sales because "there's enough other headwinds buffeting the economy to keep growth and hiring well below desired levels." Increased consumption does not guarantee that employers will hire more or that firms will produce more. Employers and firms will most likely maintain their hiring and production levels at their current modest levels.
