According to LA Times, the US continues to have the largest gap with the rich and poor among the other developed countries. In 1980, their income of the rich is five times as the poor; in 2011, the gap is widened to eight times. According to some historical data, the income inequality has grown since the 1970s after falling in the decades after WWII. The increased gap is now an important issue for the poor because it seems that they are harder to climb up the ladder to become richer according to the trend. The news of rising income inequality further strengthens the Occupy Wall Street movement and its protest of the growing gap between the rich and poor.
